DES MOINES — Tuesday's games at the boys' state basketball tournament at Wells Fargo Arena:
Class 2A Quarterfinals
No. 6 ANAMOSA (21-5) vs. No. 3 DES MOINES CHRISTIAN (21-3)
* Time: 10:30 a.m.
* Tournament history: This is Anamosa's first trip to the boys' state basketball tournament. Des Moines Christian has been to state five previous times, the last in 2010. Lions have second, third and fourth-place finishes to their credit.
* Coaches: Kevin Barnes is in his 20th season as a head coach, his 18th at Anamosa. He has a career record of 212-217. Todd Miller is 106-15 in five years at Des Moines Christian.
* Top players: Anamosa has a three-headed monster offensively in guards Kolin Schulte (22.3 points per game) and Kyle Schepanski (13.8 pog) and forward Tyler Zumbach (12.8 ppg). DMC's Keaton Van Soelen, who is 6-foot-6 like Zumbach, averages 17.8 PPG and 8.4 rebounds per game. The Lions' leading scorer is junior guard Ben Juhl (18.6 ppg).
Class 3A Quarterfinals
No. 8 SOLON (10-14) vs. No. 1 CHARITON (23-1)
* Time: 3:45 p.m.
* Tournament history: This is Solon's sixth state tournament appearance, its first since 2010. Spartans won a title in 2009 and have a second-place and two-third place finishes to their credit. Chariton has made five prior trips and is looking for its first tournament victory. This is second state appearance in three years.
* Coaches: Jason Pershing is 20-27 in his two seasons at Solon. Ben Schooley is in his fifth season at Chariton and has an 85-52 career record.
* Top players: Solon is led by senior forward Streeter McIlravy. The son of former Iowa Hawkeye wrestling legend Lincoln McIlravy averages 16.8 points. Hawkeye football commit Jacob Coons averages 9.6 points. Chariton's T.J. Hockenson has signed to play football at Iowa. The 6-6 senior averages 19.9 points. Guard Daric Laing leads the Chargers at 22.5 points. Junior forward Lim Chuong averages 10.9 points and leads the team in rebounds and assists.
No. 6 CEDAR RAPIDS XAVIER (16-8) vs. No. 3 SPIRIT LAKE (21-3)
* Time: 6:35 p.m.
* Tournament history: This is the second trip in a row for Xavier, which won its first state tournament game last season and placed third. This is the Saints' fifth tourney appearance. Spirit Lake is in the field for the first time since 1942. This is the Indians' sixth appearance.
* Coaches: Xavier's Ryan Luehrsmann is 42-29 in three seasons at the school. Dave Smith is 57-13 in three seasons at Spirit Lake and 118-48 in seven years as a head coach, including a stint at Cedar Falls NU High, where he took two teams to state.
* Top players: Xavier's leading scorer, guard Mitchell Burger, missed Xavier's district and substate final game, per coach's decision, but Coach Ryan Luehrsmann said he anticipates him being available here. He averages 16.6 points. Center Max Techau, 6-foot-7, averages 14 points. Sophomore point guard Matt Mims is at 12.5 points. Six-foot-nine Spriit Lake center Ryan Kriener is an Iowa recruit who averages 22.5 points and 12.0 rebounds. Guard Billy Brown is a North Dakota signee who averages 22.1 points.

* Class 3A quarterfinal: No. 2 Pella (22-1) vs. No. 7 Perry (15-9), 8:15 p.m.
