DES MOINES — Tray'Von Fagan made two free throws with 0.2 seconds left to give Cedar Falls a 60-58 win over Council Bluffs Lincoln in a thrilling Class 4A quarterfinal at Wells Fargo Arena.
Kyle Crowl nailed a 3-pointer from beyond the NBA line with 10 seconds remaining to bring Lincoln (22-2) into a tie. Fagan took the ball down the floor, penetrated the lane and was fouled on a strip attempt by Tony Bonner.
His first free throw bounced off the rim and went in. His second was a swish.
These teams went back and forth the entire game. The 6-foot-7 Fagan led Cedar Falls (20-4) with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore guard A.J. Green, whose shot at the buzzer gave CF an overtime substate final win over Linn-Mar, had 14 points, though only two in the second half. Bonner had 15 points and Crowl 14 for Lincoln, which was the No. 2 seed in the field.
PLEASANT VALLEY 57, DUBUQUE SENIOR 42 — The young upstart Rams were actually tied with top-seeded PV at halftime, but the second half was a different story.
Will Carius scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to help Pleasant Valley (23-1) pull away. The Spartans outscored Senior (14-11) in the third quarter, 13-2.
Center Carter Milam also had a strong game for PV, posting a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Carius and Milam helped the Spartans establish a decisive 34-21 edge on the boards.
Senior, which started a sophomore and two freshmen, was led by freshman forward Noah Carter, who had 18 points and eight rebounds.
WEST DES MOINES VALLEY 61, WEST DES MOINES DOWLING 56 — Turner Scott had 25 points and Quinton Curry 19 as Valley (21-3) won the rubber match between these rivals.
The Tigers led the entire game, by as many as 16 points in the third quarter. They shot 61.1 percent in the first half and 55.6 percent overall.
Dowling (20-4) got a team-high 17 points from sophomore Sam Ingoli. Stevie Sarcone added 15 and Cole Scieszinki 10.
Valley and Pleasant Valley play in Friday's semifinals at 1:30 p.m.
