Area preps sign letters of intent

Several Gazette-area athletes signed national letters of intent, including Cedar Rapids Prairie volleyball player Kate Busswitz and Jefferson baseball player Spencer VanScoyoc.
Busswitz signed with the University of Northern Iowa and VanScoyoc with Arizona State.
Linn-Mar had six athletes sign on Wednesday, including basketball players Amanda Ollinger and Jordan Bohannon, both of whom signed with Iowa. Track standout Stephanie Jenks signed with California-Berkeley, wrestler A.J. Geers with Pennsylvania, Amber Decker signed to run track at Iowa and Jared Printy signed to play basketball at Western Michigan.
Cedar Rapids Washington's Nick Saulier signed to swim at Minnesota and Jefferson's Jasmine Blue signed with the UNI track and field team.
Nine Iowa City West student-athletes signed letters, including basketball standout Tanner Lohaus, who will join his brother, Wyatt, at UNI. Swimmers Aidan Keen (Missouri), Mark McGlaughlin (North Carolina State) and Will Scott (Iowa) also signed, along with track and field athletes Matthew Schneider (UNI) and Tia Saunders (Iowa) and softball players Taylor Libby (Iowa) and Adara Opiola (UNI).
Western Dubuque's Megan Maahs will play basketball at UNI and Solon's Sydney Lawson signed to continue her softball career at Wisconsin.
'Megan will provide us some much needed frontcourt depth,” UNI Coach Tanya Warren said of the 6-foot-1 power forward in a release. 'She is so versatile with her ability to score inside and shoot the ball from the perimeter as well.”
