A prep football diary: Week 5
By Kyle Schepanski, Anamosa senior

As a high school student, few realize how truly blessed we are to be able to play the game of football.
Friday night after the homecoming game, in which we defeated Camanche, 45-22, there was a car accident involving six Anamosa High School students. All of them are friends of mine.
This accident resulted in a totaled truck and an emergency room visit for five of the six involved. Despite the scare, all came out with no serious injuries.
Something like this makes us appreciate life much more, and helps us realize it is a privilege to be able to play the game of football — or do anything in life, for that matter.
As a senior dominated team, we have many motives to work hard.
Each and every day when we step foot on that practice field, we keep in mind it could be the last time we ever get to play the game again. Also, for the majority of us, our football careers will come to an end after this year.
We have come to the realization this is our one last chance, and we will absolutely make the most of it.
We are sitting at 5-0 (3-0 in district play) and are ranked fourth in the state in Class 2A. Thus far, the schedule has been favorable.
The next four weeks will tell how far this team really can go. On Friday, we play for the cowbell against Monticello. The week after, we play Mount Vernon in what likely will be a game for the district title. After that we go to Union and face a talented Knights squad that always is one of the best in the state. Finally, we finish up the regular season against Cascade at home for senior night.
A year ago, our goal was just to make the playoffs and change the culture of Anamosa football.
This year, we want to make even more history. The culture is changed and this community is ready for a championship.
We are ready to make the most of our opportunity to play the game of football.
