A prep football diary: Week 2

Building a winning tradition can take some programs decades.
It took Coach Ryan Streets and company just two years to change the culture of Anamosa football.
After a seven-game winning streak a year ago, and a 2-0 start to this season, the word 'tradition” is getting thrown around with us.
Every Friday night, we now are expected to come out with the win. We are in the Top 10 of polls and we are an undefeated program.
These are all signs of a winning tradition getting started.
Last Friday, we played a hard-working Oelwein team. We had all the momentum from the very beginning. On the third play of the game, senior fullback Trevor Wehling burst out for a 50-yard run, giving us the ball at the 10-yard line. We capitalized on that and never looked back.
We finished the game with a 49-18 victory, giving us a 2-0 start and a fully healthy squad heading into the huge game Friday.
This is going to be one of the biggest stepping stones to achieve that winning tradition. We are going to battle Tipton for the 'Battle Since 1922” trophy that just recently has been renewed. Not only are we battling for the trophy and bragging rights, but there also is a district championship in the back of both teams' minds.
We were picked to win the district, and Tipton was picked to finish second.
There is a lot on the line Friday. That winning tradition could officially be installed with a win Friday.
