Dave Long, an all-state lineman at Cedar Rapids Jefferson in 1961 who went on to be a three-year starter at Iowa as a defensive end and later played in the NFL for the St. Louis Cardinals and New Orleans Saints, returned to Cedar Rapids recently to help with the J-Hawks' football camps.
This is the fourth year the 70-year-old Long has returned to Cedar Rapids to offer his love and knowledge of the game.
'He is right out there with the kids in the heat of the sun,” Linda Seger, who graduated with Long in 1962, wrote in an email. 'His heart was totally in it.”
