2A State Wrestling: Union, LaPorte City advances to finals with 46-23 win

DES MOINES — No. 1 Union, La Porte City used bonus points in its last four matches to beat No. 5 Creston/Orient-Macksburg 46-23 to advance to the State Duals final in Class 2A.
The Knights held a 24-23 lead after 10 matches, but recorded three falls and a major decision in the final. Pins from 285-pounder Michael Ahrendsen in 2:43, a 12-0 major decision from Jon Hellman at 106 pounds and pins from Derek Hoschlag and Josh Lawrinenko in less than 1:30 all contributed to the 23-point win.

Union, LaPorte City will take on No. 2 Davenport Assumption in the Class 2A finals.
Fourth-seeded Independence will compete for fifth-place. The Mustangs rebounded after a first-round loss to No. 5 Creston-OM with a 50-20 win over eighth-seeded Clear Lake. Independence, which placed fourth last year, faces No. 7 New Hampton.
