Follow this link an update to salaries for the Iowa assistant football coaches during the Kirk Ferentz era. (The graphic was too wide to fit on a regular blog post. Click it, I think you'll find it enlightening.)
This goes from Chuck Long, Bret Bielema and Joe Philbin to Rick Kaczenski, Erik Campbell and Darrell Wilson.
The Iowa coaching staff (nine full-time assistants and head strength and conditioning coach) has 110 years of combined years of service under Ferentz, which ranks fourth in the nation behind Gary Pinkel (Toledo/Missouri), Frank Beamer (Murray State/Virginia Tech) and Jim Grobe (Elon/Wake Forest).
Ferentz's staff doesn't come with a "slash," because he created it when he was hired at Iowa in December 1998. The other three coaches in the above paragraph took staffs with them to their next job.
With the firing of Penn State's Joe Paterno, Kirk Ferentz is now the dean of Big Ten coaches.
Now in his 13th season as Iowa's head football coach, Ferentz ranks ?fth in longevity among FBS head coaches. He ranks behind Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech, Larry Blakeney of Troy, Pat Hill of Fresno State and Mack Brown of Texas.
