Status for Iowa's Cartwright, Brommer still undetermined for Wednesday's game
Nov. 22, 2011 10:28 am
IOWA CITY - Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said seniors Bryce Cartwright and Andrew Brommer are practicing but their status for Wednesday's game is undetermined.
Cartwright, the team's starting point guard, played 20 minutes in an 82-59 loss to Creighton but has struggled with an illness since Friday. McCaffery said it was a "gametime decision" as to whether Cartwright would even play.
Cartwright started and left the game with Iowa trailing 12-10, and the Bluejays immediately capitalized with a 10-0 run. Cartwright went to the locker room but later returned to play four more minutes in the first half and eight in the second, but still feels ill, McCaffery said.
"Bryce was a lot better (Monday), I thought," McCaffery said. "I think the key will be how is he today. He was kind of in and out, I think you saw that in game and in the previous couple days before. So he was consistent I thought (Monday), and we'll see how felt this morning when he woke up."
Cartwright finished with nine points, one rebound and one assist.
Brommer, a center, sprained the MCL in his right knee before fall practice and played just six minutes in the team's second game against North Carolina A&T before re-injuring the knee. He has since missed Iowa's last two games.
"Brommer had a great workout (Monday), a little bit sore," McCaffery said. "Again, we'll have to see how he is today and how hard (trainer John) Streif wants to push him today or back him off and figure out if he's going to play (Wednesday) night."
