Robinson’s recovery routine includes rest, nutrition and a red shirt
Oct. 23, 2010 6:00 am
Adam Robinson's day-after-game routine almost is as regimented as what the sophomore running back goes through on game day.
Robinson said he sleeps in a few extra hours on Sundays but doesn't stay in bed all day. After he's moving, he heads to the Iowa football complex to allow trainers to view the bumps and bruises and recommend the right treatment.
“I'm definitely really sore,” Robinson said. “I'm kind of limping around. I come to the complex and get treatment, ice, whirlpool stuff like that. Sunday is definitely a vital recovery day.”
With the pounding Robinson has taken since Jewel Hampton was injured against Arizona - 81 carries in three games - trainers have stressed rest and proper nutrition to Robinson.
Robinson also now wears a red jersey in practice and is instructed to avoid all contact.
“The red jersey is there as kind of a red flag to make them back off a little bit,” Robinson said.
Chant for Parker
More than 6,000 people have joined a Facebook group to encourage Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker in his fight against diabetes as of 1 p.m. Thursday.
The group's mission is for Iowa fans to chant “Norm, Norm, Norm,” on every third down Wisconsin faces in today's game. Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn was excited to hear about the chant.
“I think that's great. He deserves it,” Clayborn said. “That's pretty cool.”
Parker was hospitalized in early September because of diabetic complications.
Trophy catch
The winner of Saturday's game keeps the Heartland Trophy until at least 2013.
“That's a big deal,” Wisconsin Coach Bret Bielema said. “So now it's not just bragging rights for a year; it's bragging rights for a number of years.”
