Cedar Rapids Prairie senior David Fason has become a game-changing, versatile player and leader for the Hawks. The University of Iowa commit ranks among the state leaders in tackles for loss and has been a difference maker on offense, defense and special teams.

The Hawkeyes open the season at home against Bellarmine and hit the road for rivalry duals against Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

Three are in the NBA. Others are in Europe, Asia, and all over college basketball.

Iowa’s quarterback situation for its game Saturday night at Wisconsin is a bit cloudy. Starter Mark Gronowski was injured late in a game two weeks ago, though he very well could be back against the Badgers. Wisconsin also has had injury issues at QB, with starter Billy Edwards Jr. hurt in the season opener. If he can’t go Saturday, the Badgers’ starter might just be Hunter Simmons.

There’s a lot of question marks for both teams this week, but the Hawkeyes have a chance to get their second conference win of the season before their toughest stretch of the year.

This could be Iowa’s 100th-consecutive game without going to overtime.

The Hawkeyes have two more home matches this season, but are hoping to be in the conversation to host a postseason match later this year.
