No silver lining in Iowa's golden uniforms
Feb. 24, 2014 11:06 am
Saturday, Iowa lost its third straight game while wearing gold at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Fans became superstitious after consecutive home losses to Michigan State and Ohio State in their gold uniforms. With "Be Bold, Wear Gold" as the theme Saturday, it was no surprise the team wore gold against Wisconsin. And the Hawkeyes promptly dropped another game.
There's no silver lining to Iowa's golden uniforms. The Hawkeyes are 3-3 in gold with victories against Maryland-Eastern Shore, Abilene Christian and Nebraska. The first two were against teams that are a combined 15-38. Nebraska, of course, has turned around its season with seven wins in its last eight games.
Iowa's record, however is nothing short of pure in white. The Hawkeyes are 8-0 in their white uniforms, winning every game but one by double digits. Those victories include an 18-point pounding of Big Ten leader Michigan, a 21-point win against Minnesota and a 26-point victory against Northwestern.
Iowa did play one home game in black -- the ACC-Big Ten Challenge against Notre Dame. On neutral courts, Iowa wore black all four times.
So here's the uniform breakdown:
- White -- 8-0 (all home)
- Gold -- 3-3 (all home)
- Black (neutral) -- 3-1
- Black (road) -- 4-3
- Black (home) -- 1-0
