Mika'il McCall is leaving the University of Iowa, the freshman running back confirmed to The Gazette on Tuesday night.
McCall, a 6-foot, 220-pounder, was suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules after carrying twice in Iowa's game at Purdue on Nov. 19.
Last week, he wrote on his Facebook page that he wouldn't return to Iowa and is looking for another school. The Dolton, Ill., native confirmed Tuesday night that he is leaving.
McCall rushed nine times for 61 yards in Iowa's opener against Tennessee Tech, but suffered a broken ankle and missed the next nine weeks. He returned for the Purdue game and carried twice for 4 yards and a fumble.
That clears up one wayward running back. Junior Marcus Coker, who led the Hawkeyes with 1,384 yards, was suspended prior to Iowa's appearance in the Insight Bowl for an unspecified violation of the UI's student-athlete Code of Conduct. A source close to the situation told The Gazette Coker wants to return to the UI.
Coker is registered for Iowa's spring semester, according to the UI registrar. Spring semester begins Jan. 17.
Mika'il McCall (25) warms up before the Iowa homecoming game against Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, in Iowa City. McCall was injured in the first game of the season. (Liz Martin/SourceMedia Group News)
