Lickliter: Tucker may not play rest of season
Jan. 26, 2010 1:45 pm
Iowa sophomore guard Anthony Tucker returned to practice Monday after a five-week suspension, but it's possible he won't play the rest of this season, Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter said today.
"I wouldn't rule it out, but I'm not going ... I haven't made a decision yet," Lickliter said.
Tucker, 20, was arrested Dec. 20 for public intoxication, his second alcohol-related charge at Iowa. He was immediately suspended pending an alcoholism assessment and 30 hours of community service.
Lickliter said Tucker has appeared remorseful for the arrest and appreciative of another chance to stay with the team. Lickliter said Tucker is eligible to compete according to the athletics department code of conduct.
"I determine who plays," Lickliter said. "I think as far as university goes, he'd be eligible to play. I'm not comfortable with it."
Tucker started Iowa's first 11 games and averaged 11.9 points a game. Last year he was academically ineligible to compete in the second semester.
"Anthony is going to have pull himself out of this basically," Lickliter said. "It's totally up to him. I've got a lot of things going on."
