Iowa's Todd Lickliter had surgery Saturday, missed game
Dec. 5, 2009 12:51 pm
Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter had a medical procedure today, Iowa team physician Brian Wolf confirmed Saturday afternoon.
"We do anticipate he will be in the hospital the next day or two," Dr. Wolf said.
Wolf declined to name the type of procedure. Lickliter's reason for the absence was disclosed as a medical procedure later called an operation. His sons, Garrett Lickliter, a graduate assistant, or John Lickliter, a red-shirt freshman guard, did not attend the game.
Barta and Wolfe said Lickliter could be coaching as soon as next week.
Iowa Assistant Coach Chad Walthall filled in for Lickliter.
Lickliter suffered from migrane headaches during the team's tournament in Kansas City and reportedly was hospitalized on Thanksgiving. Wolf would not confirm the procedure was related to Lickliter's migranes.
Lickliter did not participate in a scheduled Friday teleconference with reporters because he was at a doctor's appointment. Assistant Coach Joel Cornette filled in for Lickliter.
It's the second time Lickliter has missed a game in two seasons due to illness. Last year he missed the team's season-opening exhibition because of the flu.
Iowa (2-5) beat Prairie View A&M 80-51.
