Iowa's Kirk Ferentz on Big Ten teleconference

Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said the Big Ten race is wide open  Tuesday on the Big Ten Coaches Teleconference.

"I think it pretty much has been (wide open) historically since '81," Ferentz said. "Like any year, I think anything can happen.

"We'll know a lot more here in about three weeks."

As far as winning on the road, Ferentz said basically the team has played well.

"I think if you have an experienced quarterback it's an advantage," he said.

Ferentz recalled last year's 16-13 loss at Michigan State.

"We left town 3-3 that day," he said. "We experienced three tough losses (in a row). The bottom line we didn't play well enough to win any of those games.

"We just had too many critical errors. We made them, but our opponents helped force them as well."
