Jun. 20, 2011 11:00 am
NORTH LIBERTY - Iowa senior walk-on Jordan Stoermer has yet to decide whether he'll play basketball next year.
Stoermer, a Coralville native, has class conflicts that interfere with basketball practice next fall. He's a civil engineering major and a former National Honor Society member at Iowa City West.
"I'm not sure what I'm going to do for next year yet," Stoermer said after his Prime Time League game Sunday. "I'm still thinking about it."
He said he has until school starts to make a decision.
"(Coach Fran McCaffery) wants me to come back, and he said there's always a spot on the team for me to come back and play," Stoermer said. "He said take your time, and you've got until August to decide."
Stoermer played in 19 games and averaged 1.7 points last year. He served as a backup guard and was valued as a 3-point shooter, hitting seven in the season.
Stoermer twice led Kirkwood Community College to the national tournament before transferring to Iowa. He averaged 10.7 a game for Kirkwood.
As a senior at Iowa City West, Stoermer led Class 4A in scoring with 21 points a game to earn first-team all-state honors. He ranks second in school history in scoring with 1,327 and is first in steals (273).
"I had one really good year here ,and it was a great experience," he said. "If things go down where I only get one year, I'm still going to be pretty happy with it. I would want nothing more than to play another year."
