CANCUN, Mexico - Shooting slump? What shooting slump?
Iowa's Melissa Dixon hit 11 of 18 shots last night, including 7 of 13 3-point attempts, and scored a career-high 32 points as the Hawkeyes rolled past North Carolina-Wilmington, 102-65, for their third straight victory in the Cancun Challenge.
Dixon rounded out her performance with four rebounds and an assist as the Hawkeyes improved to 8-1 and finished first in the Mayan Division of the event. They also had victories over USC and Boston College.
NC-Wilmington dropped to 1-7.
Iowa's shooting guard had struggled with her shot the first few games of the season but snapped out of it in this event. She made 5 of 13 3-pointers Friday against Boston College and scored 17 points. Her seven 3-pointers last night tied Iowa's record for a game.
She was named MVP of the Mayan Division and teammate Samantha Logic was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Coach Lisa Bluder used 10 players last night and all 10 scored. Bethany Doolittle hit all six field goal attempts and scored 18 points. Freshman Ally Disterhoft added 16 points on 8-of 10 shooting.
Logic had just two points but distributed 11 assists.
