Iowa videos: 'Rivalry' the media's word of the day
Sep. 4, 2012 4:17 pm
Iowa players want to beat Iowa State. It's important, and it's personal. It bugged them to lose in Ames, and they hated the bus ride home last year. It bugs them now when they see Iowa State posters taped up throughout the football complex.
There are pictures of ISU fans rushing the field after last year's 44-41 triple-overtime thriller at Jack Trice Stadium. There also are bowl trophies compensating for the usual resting places of the Cy-Hawk Trophy, Heartland Trophy and Floyd of Rosedale. All of which mean a great deal to the program.
Like most years, the week of Iowa-Iowa State is filled with questions -- mostly from television media -- about the rivalry. Iowa cornerback Micah Hyde had to face some goading by a central Iowa television reporter and became a little agitated.
Here is a video with the line of questioning Hyde had to face about the Cy-Hawk rivalry along with his response, which I think was pretty good. Also in this video is wide receiver Keenan Davis talking about how the team has to prepare for Iowa State the same as any other game and bounce back regardless the result. Other interviews include defensive end Dominic Alvis, punter John Wienke talking about the special teams and Zach Derby on his role as the Hawkeyes' second tight end.
