IOWA CITY — Iowa head softball coach Renee Gillispie will step down for the 2025 season due to a “personal health matter,” the team announced Tuesday morning in a press release.
Gillispie has a 136-151 overall record since taking over as the Hawkeyes’ head coach in 2019. That includes a National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) title in 2023. The Iowa native previously spent 18 seasons as UCF’s first head softball coach; the Knights went 624-403-1 during her tenure.
Assistant coach Brian Levin will be the interim head coach for the 2025 season. He has been on the Hawkeyes’ staff for the last two seasons. Before that, he was the head coach at Southern Mississippi for three years. He had a 65-62 record during his time with the Golden Eagles before resigning.
