Iowa paid firm $50,000 for basketball search
Apr. 1, 2010 9:43 am
The University of Iowa athletics department paid $50,000 to Parker Executive Search to guide the school in its search for a men's basketball coach.
Iowa hired former Siena Coach Fran McCaffery on Sunday. He has an agreement with the school to pay him $1.1 million this year with annual increases that top out at $1.35 million over six years.
The fee was the same this year as it was in 2007, when Iowa hired Todd Lickliter. Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta fired Lickliter on March 15.
Universities hire search firms like Parker to keep all contact with prospective hires confidential. Parker's documentation on the search isn't subjected to public scrutiny, and the firm provides background checks as well.
