Iowa notes: Aaron White injures back; Devon Archie with monster dunk
Jan. 26, 2012 10:04 pm
IOWA CITY - Iowa freshman Aaron White suffered a lower back injury in the first half of Iowa's 79-73 loss to Nebraska on Thursday, but he returned to play most of the second half.
White was fouled by Nebraska's Mike Fox near the basket and landed on his left hip with 12 minutes left in the first half. White shot his free throws, but came out of the game in obvious pain. At halftime and when he sat on the bench, he kept a heat pack on his back.
After the game, White said it was still bothering him.
"It really tightened up on me at halftime," White said. "I was on the side trying to run and loosen up a little bit. I wasn't really running well, but I'm not an excuse guy. I was able to play, that's why I was out there. I told the coaching staff I was able to play."
White played 16 of his 28 minutes in the second half. He scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
"I thought White was great, 11 and 9, five offensive rebounds," Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said. "When we were strong offensively, I thought he really picked us up a couple times with the put back, a tipped dunk."

Iowa senior Devon Archie made the most of his eight minutes on Thursday. On his only shot of the game, Archie took the ball in the low post and blasted a dunk over Nebraska's Jorge Brian Diaz, who also fouled Archie on the play. Archie missed the ensuing free throw.
"I thought Arch gave us great minutes in the second half," McCaffery said.
