Iowa notches win No. 1 (with box score, transcript)
Nov. 8, 2013 11:08 pm
Greetings from West Lafayette, Ind., where the Iowa football team will play Purdue on Saturday. I'm in a hotel room located six hours from Iowa City, where the Hawkeyes' men's basketball team rolled to a 82-39 win against North Carolina-Wilmington on Friday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Newcomers Jarrod Uthoff and Peter Jok led the Hawkeyes in scoring with 14 and 11 points, respectively, off the bench. Uthoff, a sophomore, also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Jok had five rebounds. Devyn Marble and Anthony Clemmons each dished five assists.
A couple of key stats:
- Iowa had only 10 fouls, compared to UNC-Wilmington's 20.
- The Hawkeyes had 19 assists on 31 baskets.
- Iowa blocked 12 shots with Gabe Olaseni blocking five.
- Iowa's Aaron White scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
- UNC-Wilmington's Chris Dixon was 0-for-9 from the field.
- The attendance was 15, 293, the largest opening-night attendance since 2001.
- Iowa started the game with a 52-12 lead.
- Wilmington's 39 points was the second-fewest allowed by Iowa under Fran McCaffery.
Iowa (1-0) plays host to Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday.
