Iowa coaching update: Dayton's Gregory holds the key?
Mar. 26, 2010 7:08 pm
FoxSports.com senior college basketball writer Jeff Goodman tweeted earlier today that Iowa has interviewed three different men's basketball coaches. Here's his tweet:
"Iowa has interviewed Jim Boylen, Brad Brownell and Billy Kennedy. Doug Wojcik in the mix. Brian Gregory could hold the key, though"
Utah's Boylen and Murray State's Kennedy presumably were interviewed in Atlanta by Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta and associate athletics director Fred Mims earlier this week. Brownell, coach at Wright State in Dayton, Ohio, presumably met with Barta and Mims while the Iowa officials were in Cincinnati on Thursday. Brownell and Wright State Athletics Director Bob Grant declined comment Friday when asked by the Dayton Daily News if Brownell had interviewed with Iowa.
Wojcik from Tulsa has lingered below the speculation surface but stayed relevant because of his Michigan State roots. Gregory and Boylen also are former Michigan State assistants.
So is Gregory the front-runner? I'm not sure. But I agree with Goodman that he might hold the key to who gets this position.
Does Dayton Coach Brian Gregory hold the key to the Iowa men's basketball coaching search?
