Iowa basketball eligibility status update: Cartwright OK, finalizing others
Aug. 19, 2010 3:57 pm
IOWA CITY - Iowa junior-college guard Bryce Cartwright is eligible and registered to attend classes this fall, Iowa Associate Athletics Director Fred Mims said Thursday.
"I just got a call from admissions today that his final transcripts are in and he's fully admitted," Mims said. "That happened about (3 p.m.)."
Cartwright, a junior, played at Paris (Texas) Junior College last year. He averaged 9 points a game.
Iowa still is awaiting word from the NCAA to clear its remaining freshmen for competition and enrollment, Mims said. Fall semester classes begin Monday.
"Right now we're trying to get everybody confirmed through the Clearinghouse," Mims said. "For the most part they're ready to go until they get final confirmation. That's what we're waiting on. They look pretty good.
"Until we have the final certification who knows. It looks like everybody's in good shape."
Iowa's three freshmen basketball players include Melsahn Basabe (St. Mark's School, Southborough, Mass.), Devyn Marble (Southfield-Lathrup, Detroit) and Zach McCabe (Sioux City Heelan).
