Iowa 125-1 to win next year's BCS title; and Charles Barkley
Mike Hlas Jan. 9, 2012 6:58 am
So this college football season isn't over yet, at least not when this was published. Does that mean it's too soon to look to next season?
Of course not. Heck, I'm already fired up for next Christmas.
OK, that isn't true. But I digress.
(How about that GoDaddy.com Bowl Sunday night? It made that Tebow thing earlier in the day look like an exhibition game, didn't it?)
Anyway, Caesars Palace's sportsbook has posted its odds on the 2013 BCS championship -- next January's title. Iowa and Iowa State are two of the 49 teams that you can bet on to win the national title. Iowa is 125-to-1, Iowa State 150-1.
Simply put, every $10 you wager on the Hawkeyes would get you $1,250. If the Hawkeyes go 14-0, that is. Oh, I suppose there's a circumstance in which Iowa could reach the BCS title game with one loss, but it better come to a good team early in the season and be long-forgotten by December.
Iowa State only needs to go 13-0 (or 12-1 if it loses to a good team early in the year and that's long-forgotten in December) given the Big 12 has no championship game.
Michigan is the Big Ten team with the lowest odds, at 20-1. Ohio State isn't listed, since it is under a one-season bowl-ban.
The favorite is LSU at 7-2. For all the listed teams, click the link already provided.
My man R.J. Bell at Pregame.com notes that, though they need just three wins to get the job done, the Denver Broncos are a 65-1 bet to win the Super Bowl. The Green Bay Packers are favorites at 9-5.
R.J. also tells us the last four favorites in BCS title games have not only won, but have covered the spread. That's for information purposes only, obviously.
