Monday was our last full day in Vienna, so we made sure to see all the sights!
We were also able to celebrate two birthdays in Vienna! Jaime Printy turned 21 and Jack Jensen-Fitzpatrick (son of Associate Head Coach Jan Jensen) turned four.
The day started out with a bus/walking tour. We visited the Hofburg Palace, which was the home to the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918. We were also able to see a famous building that was created as an optical illusion. It was created to look like the outside was moving. It was very neat to see.
Then the group of 34 travelers from Iowa got together for a large dinner at a place called Salm Brau. We tried various Austrian dishes like fried black pudding that was described as tasting like old stuffing. I believe the favorite dish was the ribs. There were enough ribs to go around and everyone really enjoyed them. We ended the dinner with chocolate birthday cake for Jaime and Jack. It was delicious, to say the least!
It was a full day of eating and we all may have grown a couple sizes … but it's worth it!
Tomorrow, I will be writing you from Paris!
