In heaven (err Minnesota) there might be beer for Iowa football?
May. 14, 2010 12:28 pm
The "Beer in Heaven Polka" is a post-game staple by the Iowa Marching Band following football victories. Could the marching band play the song during a game and actually mean it?
Minnesota's state legislature is considering alcohol sales at the University of Minnesota's TCF Stadium. The most recent bill allows for alcohol in the suites as long as one-third of the general admission fans also get a chance to drink alcohol during the game. Passage is uncertain right now.
On Nov. 27, Iowa will make its first football appearance at the outdoor football stadium. It's not hard to imagine a combination of "Beer in Heaven Polka" combined with clips from "Field of Dreams" for Hawkeye fans during the game.
"Is this heaven?" "No, it's Iowa. Plus there's beer!"
I can only imagine the jokes on the way to the restroom.
A look at the new TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 7, 2010. The stadium opened in 2009, and Iowa will end its regular season there on Nov. 27, 2010. (Scott Dochterman/The Gazette)
