Hawkeyes wrestling recruit faces assault charge

A former NJCAA national champion from Iowa Central, who was expected to continue his wrestling career at the University of Iowa was charged with assault causing injury during an incident June 29.
Edwin Cooper, 20, of Coralville, is accused of the assault at in 400 block of Johnson Street at 1:43 a.m. in Iowa City, according to the Iowa City Police Department online blotter.
Cooper, who won a title in 2012 and red-shirted last season, is listed as an Iowa commit by
Amateur Wrestling News, expecting to wrestle 149 or 157 pounds.
