LINCOLN, Nebraska – The Hawkeyes might have been defeated by the Huskers in the new rivalry, the Heroes Game. But not according to Facebook.
The University of Iowa competed for school spirit in a Facebook fan race with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for weeks prior to kickoff. But UI fans won the “Race to Black Friday,” and by the 11 a.m. kickoff deadline, had 51,833 fans "like" the official university page, to Nebraska's 51,250.
Iowa fans were trailing behind in the fan race early this morning, considered a friendly match and induction of the Huskers into the Big Ten. But more than one thousand more Hawkeye fans rallied in the clutch.
And 189 more fans (and counting) have subscribed to the UI page since kickoff.
According to a recent status update from the
University of Iowa Facebook page, 492 people agree: it's still great to be a Hawkeye.
