Hawkeyes get commitment from 6-3 Illinois prep

Jun. 13, 2011 1:42 pm
IOWA CITY -- The Iowa Hawkeyes have added another post prospect.
Nicole Smith, a 6-foot-3 senior-to-be at Rockton (Ill.) Hononegah High School, has orally committed to play for the University of Iowa women's basketball team, beginning with the 2012-13 season.
Smith is Iowa's third commitment for the Class of 2012. She joins Kali Peschel, a 6-1 guard from Sauk Centre, Minn., and Kayla Timmerman, a 6-3 post from Wayzata, Minn.
After averaging 15.8 points and 9.5 rebounds as a sophomore, Smith battled a torn ACL as a junior and her numbers dipped to 9.0 points and 6.3 boards per game. Hononegah finished 28-4 and advanced to the Illinois Class 4A sectional semifinals.
Smith originally committed to Wisconsin, but changed her mind after Coach Lisa Stone was let go after the season.
Junior Morgan Johnson is Iowa's lone returning true post. Lisa Bluder welcomes 6-4 freshman Bethany Doolittle.
