Greenwood Auction -- Item(s) No. 4
Marc Morehouse
Jun. 21, 2012 4:48 pm
The first day of this auction, I offered an autographed 2011 senior poster. A gentleman named John Reglein won it with a bid of $250. That was extremely nice of John.
John wasn't finished giving.
Mr. Reglein is the president of The Graphic Edge, the "Sports Apparel Specialist" Carroll. You see where this is going.
Above you see an Under Armour Iowa warm-up. Below, those are the pants that match.
Here's the catalog description: Signature Under Armour sideline loof for the season. Durable wind and water resistant. Double weave woven fabrication. Soft insulating lining. Side zip pockets and inner storage pockets. Zippered pockets and leg openings.
There will be a slight wait, but only slight.
From John: The garments won't be available in the UA warehouse until 07/02/12, so our delivery is probably around the 10th of July and then we will have to embroider them. This isn't a problem for us, but I want the customer to know that it's not an instant delivery. If they want that, it would have to be a black/white warm up, rather than a black/gold. [I think you'll want black and gold, correct?]
John wants to wait and see who wins the bid so he can get you the right size.
The retail value is $125. So, we're going to open the bidding there. This will fit! And you would have the black-and-gold version well before tailgate time.
Big thanks to John and The Graphic Edge! I was sweating Thursday. I am totally out of Hawkeye stuff.
Oh, there's more.
This is an 8X11 photo from a Tyler Sash autograph session. It has a "#9 Tyler Sash" stamped on the lower right corner. This was donated by Doug Baldwin of Cedar Rapids. He knows Brett's dad, Dave, who grew up in Cedar Rapids.
I love this because it reminds us why we're bidding. Thank you, Mr. Baldwin!
This was passed to me by Gazette columnist Mike Hlas. He blogged about it here.
The reason I think it's worth a look is it's Iowa players from the 1940s to 2010 telling their own stories, what led them to come to Iowa, their memories and feelings about big and little moments in their careers. It's people with some distance from the program who have a perspective about their college experience.
“What excited me about this book, unlike some others,” co-author Neal Rozendaal said, “is it's really human-interest. It's almost autobiographies in a way.”
The book (excerpts are courtesy of Triumph Books) is available at some major online booksellers, and will be in area bookstores as football season nears. It opens with a 10-page foreword by Ferentz, which caught my attention right off the bat.
Relive Iowa's historic 2002 season through the eyes of Gazette columnist Mike Hlas, me (mostly Hlas) and Gazette photographers in the “Return to Glory” book. It's a soft cover book that takes you through 2002 and other great moments in Iowa football as chronicled by former Gazette sports staffer.
Also, for the heck of it and because it's a really cool publication, I'm throwing in a copy of “If the Stars Align,” the preview issue to the 2010 season. Yes, the stars didn't align the way we all thought, but cool pictures, slick presentation.
ALSO, I'm working on a 2011 highlight DVD from the UI. I think I can swing it. Will update.
We had quite a battle for the Hawkeye Nation "Love it or Leave it" poster. Like right down to the final minute.
E-mailer John took home the poster and the other stuff that went with it (I thought the Rose Bowl hat was pretty cool). During the afternoon, @CaliHawki, a very knowledgeable and passionate Hawkeye fan and fun guy to share Twitter convos with, said he would send me another Hawkeye Nation poster. I offered this to Ernest for $200. He snapped it up.
Very astute "On Iowa" readers will remember Ernest from his dogged pursuit of the Hawkeye Nation posters from last year. So, thanks to @CaliHawki, this worked out very well.
The totals: With E-mailer John's $260 for the "Love/Leave" poster and other stuff, we're up to $730. With Ernest's $200 for the extra "Love/Leave" poster. we are now at $930. It looks as though The Gazette will be making out that $1,000!
Excellent work, Hawkeyes fans. You are tremendous.
This auction is for Brett Greenwood, the former Iowa safety whose heart stopped beating on the field at his old high school last summer as he tried to make his way into the NFL. Brett remains in rehab. His family started the Brett Greenwood Foundation (follow this link) to raise funds for this lengthy journey.
Brett's recovery is ongoing. Let's do our best to help.
The Gazette has agreed to match what's raised here up to $1,000. That's happening. Let's make it $3,000!
Don't worry about mailing and delivery, we'll figure something out. Pay by check or PayPal.
Bid away and have fun. Any questions, my e-mail is marc.morehouse@sourcemedia.net. I'm also on Twitter (@marcmorehouse). You also can comment. I get back to most.
Thanks so much for your generosity!
Brett Greenwood/Tyler Sash photo donated by Doug Baldwin of Cedar Rapids. Thank you, Doug!
'What it means to be a Hawkeye' book. Nice piece to complement your Hawkeye ManCave area.
On the left, the 2002 Gazette book on the first perfect Big Ten campaign for Iowa i n80 years. On the right, the 2010 'If the Stars Align' season preview magazine. No, not knockouts, but interesting things to have around the house if your wife doesn't throw everything away. (My wife throws everything away.)
