Georgia Tech coach prefers playoff system to bowls
Jan. 4, 2010 7:17 am
Georgia Tech Coach Paul Johnson said this morning he is in favor of a playoff system to determine college football's national champion.
"I think the BCS is probably doing it probably about the best way they can," Johnson said. "Am I in favor of a playoff system? Personally, yes. I think that it would be a good way to do it. Will that happen? I don't know. That's going to have to come from the presidents if it happens."
Johnson won two national titles in his five seasons as head coach at Georgia Southern, a Football Championship Subdivision juggernaut. In his eight seasons as a coach in the Football Bowl Subdivison at Navy and Georgia Tech, his teams have reached bowls seven times.
"We're the only sport in the NCAA that doesn't play if off, I think, for a championship," Johnson said. "So I think eventually it's going to happen."
Georgia Tech Coach Paul Johnson leaves the stage after his press conference.
