The Albany Times-Union is reporting that Melsahn Basabe, a 6-foot-7 power forward who had signed to play for Siena, has been released from his Letter of Intent and could be heading to Iowa to play for former Siena coach Fran McCaffery.
According to David Lubick, Basabe's coach at St. Mark's School (Mass.), Iowa already has made a scholarship offer. “He will visit (Iowa) soon,” Lubick wrote in an e-mail to the Albany paper.
Basabe also has sparked interest from Texas, Boston College and Indiana, according to Lubick.
As we reported yesterday, new Iowa assistant coach Andrew Francis recruited Basabe to Siena while an assistant there under McCaffery. It would make sense that he would want to follow McCaffery and Francis to Iowa.
