I believe this is the third watch list post I've made (Prater, Reiff and now James Ferentz).
Here's the UI sports info release:
FERENTZ NAMED TO RIMINGTON WATCH LIST
IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa junior center James Ferentz has been named to the Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I college football.
Ferentz (6-2, 284) started all 13 games for the Hawkeyes in 2010, earning the offensive Coaches Appreciation Award. Ferentz is a member of Iowa's 2011 Leadership Council as well.
He played every offensive play in 10 of 12 games during the 2010 season, helping Iowa close the season with a dominating rushing performance in the 27-24 Insight Bowl win over 12th-ranked Missouri.
The former Iowa City HS prep is one of 42 candidates on the Rimington list. The list includes six players from both the Big Ten and Southeastern conferences.
The Rimington Trophy winner will be honored at the Rimington Trophy Presentation banquet in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 14, 2012. The award is named after former Nebraska center Dave Rimington.
I did a story on James Ferentz last August. O-line coach Reese Morgan said he plays with an "edge."
James interpreted that as this:
Again, not a comparison or a contrast, but when talking James, Morgan used the phrase "plays with an edge."
"I just try to go out and play and give my best and not let my teammates down. We have a bunch of great players on this team and you can't be selfish out here."
I interpret it as this, kid plays to the whistle and then some. He gets under skin. A general pain in the butt pad for the guy across him.
James Ferentz and defensive tackle Mike Daniels, all August. Man, I wish we could watch practice.
