Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz met with the media on Wednesday and here are some of the more interesting he had to say while awaiting Bowl Selection Sunday:
* Quarterback Ricky Stanzi is close to being able to practice and might have been able to play this week if Iowa had a game. As for other injured players, he's optimistic guard Dace Richardson will be able to play in the bowl game and he expectes Adam Robinson to be able to practice.
* He thinks Iowa is BCS bowl worthy, asking people to look at the head-to-head results but not mentioning any names such as ... Penn State.
* He had a "no comment" when asked about possible contact from Notre Dame officials, who are looking for a head coach after firing Charlie Weis. "I'm not a vagabond coach. I don't see things changing here," Ferentz said.
* He's cool with the plus-1 national title game scenario where the top two teams AFTER the bowl games would play to see who's No. 1.
* His top play of the 2009 season: Adrian Clayborn's blocked punt for a TD at Penn State.
* Ferentz also is asking Iowa fans to have patience with the struggling Hawkeyes men's basketball team.
