Ex-Hawk Kampman unsure about Packers return
Jan. 12, 2010 9:42 am
Former Aplington-Parkersburg and University of Iowa standout Aaron Kampman told reporters Monday he is unsure he will return to Green Bay next season.
“This is the only place I've been, and it would be great to continue my career here,” Kampman told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “But we will see what happens.”
Kampman, 30, had 3.5 sacks, 51 tackles and 28 quarterback hits before he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Nov. 22.
Kampman has 54 career sacks and 40.5 since 2006, fifth-best in the NFL. He shifted from defensive end to outside linebacker when the Packers changed from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense. His contract expires after the season.
The Packers drafted Kampman in the fifth round of the 2002 draft. He's one of four NFL players hailing from Aplington-Parkersburg, including Denver center Casey Wiegmann, Jacksonville center Brad Meester and Detroit defensive end Jared DeVries. All four were pallbearers when former Aplington-Parkersburg coach Ed Thomas was murdered last summer.
