Cy-Hawk Trophy 'Wont be on sidelines'
Aug. 23, 2011 5:38 pm
The controversial Cy-Hawk trophy, which was unveiled Friday in Des Moines, "Wont be on the sidelines" at this years game according to Iowa Corn CEO Craig Floss. Floss said a temporary trophy will replace the failed attempt, which depicts a family wrapping up a long day of work on a cornfield.
“Obviously we didn't anticipate the level of criticism and how quickly and swiftly it would come," Floss said. "If we would have anticipated that we certainly wouldn't have put this trophy out there.”
Iowa Corn announced Tuesday that fans would have the opportunity to vote on a new trophy, but that trophy wont be ready when the Cyclones and Hawkeyes meet this September in Ames.
“We thought we had an opportunity to take that trophy and the platform that it provided to what makes Iowa such a special place to live work and play,” Rick Klatt, Associate Athletic Director at the University of Iowa, said of the design.
Klatt described the trophy as a "piece of art," which he said fans didn't see as a trophy.
