Creighton rolls past Iowa 82-59

DES MOINES - Creighton rolled past Iowa in every category Sunday, winning 82-59 at Wells Fargo Arena as part of the Dale Howard Classic.
Creighton shot 55.2 percent from the floor and outrebounded Iowa 43-27. The Bluejays outscored Iowa 40-16 in the paint.
Creighton's Doug McDermott led all scorers with 25 points.
Iowa freshman Josh Oglesby had 14 points and senior Matt Gatens added 13.
HALFTIME STORY
Creighton sophomore forward Doug McDermott scored 17 points to pace Creighton to a comfortable 45-29 halftime lead Sunday afternoon at Wells Fargo Arena.
McDermott lit up Iowa with his inside-out play. He was 6-of-9 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers. But he wasn't the only Bluejay crushing Iowa offensively. Guard Avery Dingman was 3-for-3 from 3-point range, and Creighton sank seven 3-pointers.
Creighton (3-0) shot 58.6 percent from the field, including 7-of-12 from 3-point range. The Bluejays also outrebounded Iowa 21-11, outscored Iowa 10-0 on second-chance points and 18-6 in the paint.
Iowa (3-0) went five minutes without a basket, and the Bluejays took advantage with a 10-0 run. Creighton led 12-10 with 12:24 left in the half when Dingman hit his first 3-pointer. Iowa missed a pair of shots, then McDermott drilled another 3-pointer to put Creighton ahead 18-10. Creighton center Gregory Echenique followed with a pair of back-to-back baskets to push the lead to 22-10.
Creighton went on an 8-0 run and led by 19 points near the end of the first half with Josh Jones hitting a jumper, followed by another Dingman 3-pointer and a 3-pointer from Jones. Iowa point guard Bryce Cartwright hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut Iowa's deficit to 45-29.
Iowa's Matt Gatens had 11 points, and sank two 3-pointers. Iowa hit only 8-of-15 free-throw attempts.
