Oct. 24, 2013 11:38 am
IOWA CITY -- BTN continues its documentary series on the greatest teams in league history with a special on the 1985 Iowa Hawkeyes football team.
The one-hour special, which officially debuts at 3 p.m. Saturday, features a look at more than just that 10-2 campaign. It deals heavily with the Iowa City football culture and how Coach Hayden Fry turned 20 years of losing into a championship era of Iowa athletics.
Among the program's highlights include a profile of Fry's coaching tree, the significance of quarterback Chuck Long staying for a fifth season and the No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown game against Michigan. The episode also chronicles the painful loss at Ohio State and shows the team rallying for its second Rose Bowl berth under Fry.
Among the people interviewed include Fry, Long, kicker Rob Houghtlin and former KCRG Sports Director John Campbell as well as longtime Iowa fans from the iconic Hamburg Inn No. 2.
The episode also airs at 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and again at 6 p.m. Sunday.
