Bowl scouts thrilled with Iowa
Oct. 11, 2009 11:02 am
Several bowl scouts watched Iowa beat Michigan on Saturday, including from the Rose Bowl and Florida Citrus Sports.
Florida Citrus Sports runs both the Capital One and Champs Sports bowls, which are held in Orlando. The Capital One Bowl pits the Big Ten and Southeastern conferences' top non-Bowl Championship Series teams on January 1. The Champs Sports Bowl is held Dec. 29 and matches the Atlantic Coast Conference's third-best non-BCS squad against the Big Ten's third- or fourth-best non-BCS team.
“At this point we're watching both teams,” said Paul Ciambriello, a selection member with Florida Citrus Sports. “We'd love to have either one down in Orlando come January or late December.”
Both Michigan and Iowa won in their last trip to Orlando. Michigan beat Florida 49-35 in the 2008 Capital One Bowl, while Iowa beat Louisiana State on a last-second pass in 2005.
“In 2005 we had Iowa, which was one of our most exciting bowl games, the most exciting finish ever in the Capital One Bowl,” Ciambriello said. “Michigan had a great win over Florida.”
Ciambriello said his organization will have scouts watching Iowa at Wisconsin this Saturday.
