2011 Big Ten bowl selection process
Nov. 12, 2011 9:15 am
The Big Ten's bowl selection process for 2011:
- 1. The winner of the Big Ten championship game automatically plays in the Rose Bowl unless it is ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in the final BCS standings. This likely will not apply this year.
- 2. A Big Ten school can be selected as a BCS (Orange, Fiesta, Sugar) at-large participant if it has won at least nine regular-season games and is ranked in the top 14 of the final BCS standings.
- 3. The Big Ten championship game loser will be selected no later than fourth (Insight or Gator) after the BCS.
BOWL GAMES
- CAPITAL ONE BOWL - Can select any eligible team after the BCS except a team that has two fewer wins or two more losses than another eligible team.
- OUTBACK BOWL - Can select any eligible team after the Capital One Bowl except a team that has two fewer wins or two more losses than another eligible team. BUT if a second Big Ten team moves up to the BCS, the two-win/loss differential no longer applies.

- GATOR BOWL - Can select any eligible team after the Insight Bowl.
- MEINEKE CAR CARE BOWL OF TEXAS - Can select any eligible team after the Gator Bowl.
