IOWA CITY — Former Iowa football standouts Shonn Greene and Adrian Clayborn are among the 2024 inductees into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame, the athletics department announced Thursday.
Other members of the class include baseball player Mike Boddicker, field hockey athlete Sue Bury, wrestler Rico Chiapparelli, tennis athlete Laura Dvorak and basketball players Kevin Kunnert and Lindsey Meder.
Greene won the 2008 Doak Walker Award, which goes to the best running back in college football. He also was the first Hawkeye running back to be a consensus All-American since Nile Kinnick in 1939.
Clayborn, a defensive end on the Hawkeyes from 2007-10, was a consensus All-American in 2010 and a finalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award. During Clayborn’s tenure as a three-year starter, the Hawkeyes won three consecutive bowl games for the first time in program history.
Boddicker, a native of nearby Norway, led the NCAA in strikeouts in 1978 before an 11-year MLB career that included an All-Star selection, a Gold Glove Award and Sporting News Rookie of the Year honors.
Meder was a three-time all-Big Ten selection and third-round selection in the 2002 WNBA Draft. Kunnert was a first-team All-American in 1973 and a first-round selection by the Chicago Bulls in that year’s NBA Draft.
Chiapparelli was the national champion at 177 pounds in 1987 and helped Iowa men’s wrestling win team NCAA titles in 1983, 1985 and 1986.
Bury, a two-time first-team All-American, competed in three AIAW national championships and two NCAA tournaments during her five years with Iowa field hockey from 1979-83. Dvorak still ranks second in Iowa women’s tennis history with 102 career singles victories.
Athletes must have completed their eligibility at least 10 years ago to be eligible for the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame. Coaches and administrators have a five-year waiting period.
This year’s eight-person class will officially be inducted on Aug. 30 — the evening before Iowa’s Week 1 football game against Illinois State.
