IOWA CITY — Iowa football will send linebacker Jay Higgins, tight end Luke Lachey and defensive back Quinn Schulte to Big Ten Media Days later this month, the conference announced Thursday morning.
It will be the first trip to the annual summer media event for Schulte, a Cedar Rapids native, as he approaches his third season as the Hawkeyes’ starting free safety. Higgins and Lachey also attended the event last year.
Higgins tied the program record last year with 171 total tackles — a feat even more impressive when considering it was his first full season as a starter. He will enter the 2024 season with high outside expectations, as Phil Steele tabbed Higgins as his preseason choice for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
Lachey had a promising start to the 2023 season before being sidelined with a season-ending injury in Iowa’s Week 3 win over Western Michigan. Schulte, meanwhile, was an all-Big Ten honorable mention after starting all 14 games and serving in a leadership role on a defense that allowed an FBS-best 4.08 yards per play.
The three players will join head coach Kirk Ferentz in Indianapolis on July 24 as they talk with local and national reporters ahead of the 2024 season. Big Ten Media Days are a three-day event, with six teams participating on each day.
