IOWA CITY — The NCAA’s coordinator of officials overturned the targeting call on Iowa linebacker Karson Sharar from the first half of the Oct. 21 game against Minnesota, the team said Thursday in a news release.
Sharar’s targeting call was on a Minnesota kickoff return in the final minute of the first half. He was ejected for the rest of the game. Because it happened before halftime, the call would not have affected his availability for Iowa’s Nov. 4 game against Northwestern.
“After review, it was determined Sharar did not target with the crown of the helmet, and he subsequently should not have been disqualified,” the Iowa news release said.
The Iowa Falls native has appeared in all eight of the Hawkeyes’ games so far this season, with the bulk of his snaps coming on special teams.
