IOWA CITY — Iowa football is expected to be without three of its usual starters for this year’s Cy-Hawk game.
Wide receiver Keagan Johnson, linebacker Jestin Jacobs and cornerback Jermari Harris are not listed on the Hawkeyes’ Week 2 depth chart.
Johnson will be out again after missing the season opener and much of fall camp with an injury. Redshirt freshman walk-on Alec Wick, a former Iowa City Regina standout, is projected to make his second consecutive start.
Jacobs left Iowa’s 7-3 win over South Dakota State with an injury. Head coach Kirk Ferentz said afterward he knew it wasn’t a joint injury, which he considered “good news.”
“It's soft tissue, and those can drag out, too, as we know, but at least it wasn't a joint,” Ferentz said Saturday. “That would have been bad.”
Logan Klemp is at the Leo linebacker spot while Jacobs is out.
Harris has already missed the Kids Day practice and SDSU game. Even if he wasn’t hurt, he would’ve missed the season opener anyway because of a one-game suspension for his OWI arrest.
Ferentz said Tuesday Harris’ status is “very doubtful.”
Terry Roberts is listed as the starting cornerback on the opposite side of Riley Moss for Week 2.
Running back Gavin Williams is back on the depth chart after missing Saturday’s season opener. Ferentz said Tuesday he is “optimistic” about Williams’ status for the Cy-Hawk game.
“But we’ll know more as the week goes on,” Ferentz said.
Defensive tackle Yahya Black is out with a foot injury, with his recovery being a “matter of weeks probably.” Louie Stec has his second-team spot on the depth chart.
The Week 2 depth chart has a reshuffled offensive line. Connor Colby is at right guard after starting at right tackle against South Dakota State. Jack Plumb is back in the starting lineup at right tackle, and Tyler Elsbury is listed at left guard.
