IOWA CITY — The Kadyn Proctor era at Iowa appears to be a short-lived one.
The much-acclaimed Iowa offensive lineman is expected to leave the program and reenter the transfer portal after committing to the Hawkeyes from Alabama on Jan. 20.
“It is unfortunate that Kadyn has informed us of his intentions to leave our program today,” Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement to The Gazette. “We wish him well in the future.”
Proctor told the recruiting site On3 on Tuesday that he plans to re-enroll at Alabama.
Proctor cannot officially enter the transfer portal until the second window, which officially begins on April 16. That potentially gives the Hawkeyes another few weeks to sway the former five-star recruit, who still is listed on the team roster and in the University of Iowa’s student directory as of Tuesday afternoon.
The 6-foot-7 offensive lineman’s anticipated move is despite plenty of momentum for Iowa’s Swarm Collective, which raised more than $100,000 in NIL funding in one day alone when Proctor entered the portal.
The former Southeast Polk standout told reporters Iowa “is home” following his commitment in January.
“This is ultimately where I wanted to be,” Proctor said at the time. “It’s the first place I thought of when I entered the transfer portal."
Proctor, who initially entered the transfer portal after longtime Alabama coach Nick Saban’s retirement, started in all 14 games at left tackle as a true freshman and earned a spot on the all-SEC freshman team.
Before that, he was the top-rated offensive tackle nationally in the 2023 recruiting class. The in-state star initially committed to the Hawkeyes before flipping to Alabama.
