It seems impossible, but it’s true. Every college’s athletic recruits say the same thing.
Several times an hour, day after day after day, it’s “After a great conversation with Coach X, I am blessed to receive an offer from Coach Y.”

The Gazette offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
I don’t understand. Why do so many high school recruits tweet the same basic message after getting offered a scholarship from a college coach?
It goes like this: “After a great conversation with Coach X, I am blessed to receive an offer from Coach Y.”
At 8:20 p.m., Wednesday, 15 such tweets were posted in the previous half-hour. They were prep athletes talking about offers from Richmond, Alcorn State, UT Martin (2) Wisconsin-River Falls, UTSA, West Georgia, Florida, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Sacred Heart, Navy, Missouri State, Sioux Falls and Montana State.
They all mentioned “great conversations.” The athletes all said they were blessed. Which is wonderful, but the similarity of the posts day after day, month after month, makes me wonder if college prospects have become some sort of zombie race.
Great conversations. Blessed to receive an offer.
Is such wording mandatory? Does no one have their own words to share on such happy moments in their lives?
Iowa’s coaches have as many great conversations with recruits as anyone, and their recruits are as blessed as anyone.
This Nebraska recruit went off-script just a bit. It may have been a simple error: Fortunately, the young man stating his gratitude shouldn’t be anything to alarm the Huskers’ coaching staff.
One time, I want a prospect to say “After an obtuse conversation with Coach X, my concerns were alleviated by School Y’s NIL offer. I’m feeling flush with cash, and look forward to driving my new Ferrari F80 around campus.”
It’s fun to pretend.
