IOWA CITY — Iowa’s Kaden Wetjen is the 2024 recipient of the Jet Award, which recognizes the top return specialist in college football.
It adds to the growing list of accolades for the Williamsburg native. Wetjen was a first-team All-American via the Football Writers Association of America and was a Sporting News second-team All-American. He also was the Big Ten’s Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year.
The various honors follow a season in which Wetjen led the country with 1,055 combined kick and punt return yards. He had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Missouri in the Music City Bowl and a 85-yard punt return for a touchdown against Northwestern.
Wetjen is the first Hawkeye in program history to receive the award, which is in its 14th year of existence. He will be presented with the award in Omaha, Neb., on April 10.
The Hawkeyes appear to have one more season of Wetjen’s electrifying punt and kick returns, as he told reporters ahead of Iowa’s bowl game that he is “98 percent” sure he will return in 2025.
