IOWA CITY — Add James Resar to the list of the Hawkeyes who plan to enter the transfer portal when it opens next week.
Resar — Iowa’s 2024 quarterback recruit, who was then moved to wide receiver — announced his intention to enter the portal Thursday morning on social media.
Resar, who has four years of eligibility remaining, will be seeking opportunities to play quarterback.
The four-star recruit from Jacksonville, Fla. — as rated by 247 Sports — chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Indiana, North Carolina and Wake Forest, among other FBS programs.
“James has a role as a passer, but you can’t deny the athletic ability that he has, and that’s something that intrigued us,” said Tyler Barnes, Iowa’s then-director of football recruiting, when Resar signed with the Hawkeyes. “Something maybe a little bit different than we have in the room currently and in the past few years.”
Resar is far from the first quarterback from Iowa to enter the portal in recent years. Iowa’s high school quarterback recruits from the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes all ended up leaving via the portal.
Other Iowa players to transfer this year include running back Leshon Williams, wide receiver Kaleb Brown, tight end Johnny Pascuzzi and fullback Rusty VanWetzinga.
